"FLOWERS FOR FAYTHE" 2008 SHOWS
See many large flower tapestries at Textures Gallery at Artspace in downtown Scottsdale in December.* Attend the reception on Thursday, December 11, 6-9 pm.

I am dedicating a year of shows to my sister Faythe Wood(1949-2008)and giving 20% of all sales to Susan G. Komen for the Cure®. We have faith that a cure for breast cancer is near. PLEASE consider a purchase this year. If you give a donation, I will reduce the price of my artwork.

Many dollars were contributed through sales at my Open Studio. This Boulder art event of 125 artists lasts two full weekends in October. For the summer of 2008 the tapestries were shown at a successful show at the La Jolla Fiber Art Gallery. In March 2009 one more show will be at the gallery of Artwork Network in Denver.

ARTIST'S COMMENTS:
I weave in the slit tapestry manner of the ancient Aubusson tapestry community in France. Variations include many types, textures and sizes of yarn, dramatic hatching of colors, and some 3-dimensional elements. I love to use wool yarns, but add silks, cottons, rayons spun as chenilles, boucle, thin ribbons. In the Aubusson tapestry, color-blending occurs through the technique of hatching. I have expanded hatching to include grand gestures of color into color to enhance the design. For more texture and drama, I add 3-dimensional elements. There may be additional sections quilted on top of the base tapestry.

In the photo below I am creating a piece of the new art form I developed in 2003 which I named "woven paintings/photos". After warping a small loom in thin yarn, I choose photos or paintings. For example, in "Swallowtail at Sunset," my watercolor of a swallowtail butterfly resting on a purple flower is interspersed with my acrylic painting of a sunset.
